Exciting News Confirmed!

May 10, 2012 | Filed under: Announcements, Church Newsletter, Ministry and tagged with: Chalice UUC

This past Sunday, Chalice Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Escondido, CA voted unanimously to call me as their settled minister.

As I shared with them in my May 6 sermon, my candidating week was extraordinary. I found the congregation warm and welcoming, generous with their personal sharing and with their honesty. They shared their hopes and dreams for the congregation, their desire to reach out to the neighborhood, to plan for the future, to make a healing and transformative impact in the world.

Sometime during the course of that week, I stopped feeling like “their candidate” and began to feel like “their minister.” I am excited for the work we will take on together in years to come.

I look forward to officially beginning my service with them on August 1.

Sharon, I believe you spoke at the UUSIC in Iowa City. Your topic was “You are the Universe.” It was a profoundly moving experience. Chalice is fortunate to have you as a settled minister! Warmest congratulations!

Is there any way I could get a copy of that sermon?!

Thank you, Sharon; I received it, and it’s wonderful to re-visit this experience. The Joy Harjo poem,”Remember”, is such a powerful introduction and conclusion to the sermon – “Remember that all is in motion, is growing, is you…..”

You’re going to be the minister at Chalice???? Congratulations. I did some field work with Rev. Thomas Anastasi at the Shoreline, WA church a number of years ago. He’s done a great job as interim at Chalice for the past almost two years. I don’t get up there very often because Lakeside, CA is quite a distance to drive to and from on Sunday mornings, so have been attending Summit in Santee. But, would love to meet you!
